Career-coach and author Ford Myers has written a gem of a book, “Get the Job You Want When No One’s Hiring,” for those in or contemplating a career-transition. Myers draws on his deep experience helping thousands of people take charge of their careers, find jobs they love, and earn what they deserve.

“Get the Job” is organized around five topics:

  • The psychology of job hunting in a down market
  • From desperation to career strategies for tough times
  • Leveraging your core job seeker materials
  • Job search tactics to use when no one’s hiring
  • Bulletproof your career, once and for all

He provides tests for introspection (your values and gifts, passions, career goals, and the ideal job), networking tips, tools to develop all the materials the reader will need (a marketing template, elevator pitch, and resume), sample “accomplishment” stories, interviewing tips and questions, negotiating tips, and post-search career management tools. All of the tests and forms he provides in the book can also be downloaded from the web.

Myers provides a number of gems as well as the rules of the road. These include:

  • The number secret in job search success (why some people land jobs when no one’s hiring!)
  • The Seven Truths of Career Success for both good times and bad
  • What employers do differently when there are more applicants than jobs
  • Twenty habits of highly effective job seekers in a down market
  • Why your resume is your least important tool
  • The number one way to get hired when no one is hiring
  • How to create an on-line identity

I have reviewed many books written for those in-transition and would put this one at the top of my list, “Get the Job” is comprehensive, well structured, easy to follow book,  and will serve as an excellent resource for years. Myer’s shares a reality with the readers: if you are in transition, you are not out of job as – NETWORKING IS YOUR JOB!

“Get the job” provides the ammunition for happy and productive huntingl.
